Hi, my name is Charlie Appel and I'm a Student Missionary serving at Washington State University.
Go Cougs!
I am a senior studying athletic training and will also serve as a student missionary here at Saint Thomas More. This year for the first time we are starting a household of Catholic men and I have been blessed to be asked to lead these men.
Throughout my life, I have always been raised Catholic. We went to Mass every Sunday, prayed before meals, and I even attended a Catholic high school. But I always felt it was something I was being dragged to, and my faith was not something I understood at a personal level nor was passionate about. Eventually, when I was a senior in high school, I made a personal commitment to myself and God to get confirmed. I was planning on being confirmed as a freshman here at WSU, but then Covid hit, and I did not have the opportunity to follow through with the Sacrament. Looking back, I realize how The Lord wanted me to wait because he had so much more in store for me.
Within that following year, I had a personal encounter with Our Lord through the Eucharist in Adoration, and following that I made a conviction to truly give my life to God and my life changed substantially. I started praying every day, participating in the Sacraments more wholly, but most importantly I started the long journey of getting to know Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The years following this change in my own heart saw much growth within me and many trials. Most recently it has led me to participate in a Missionary Training Internship through Saint Paul’s Outreach. One of the main takeaways from my time at Training was that God is calling our community of men to live deeper relationships with one another and to strive for excellence in all we do, and the main way He wishes to walk with us through this time is through our Men’s Household, “Chi Rho”.
Seated right on Greek Row, our vision is to form 11 men into strong, masculine, disciples of Christ so that we may serve as a light for our Christian community, and to every corner of our campus. Our men in the household will be asked to walk with their brothers focusing on prayer, community, and excellence. I am truly humbled and blessed to be called on as the leader of this household and to serve as a student missionary for all Catholic Cougs.
I’ve been blessed with this fantastic opportunity and would love for you to join me on this call to mission. Please consider donating if you’d like to help me and support the work I’ll be doing. By becoming part of my campus missionary support, you are helping me make a difference in the students' lives at WSU. I am excited to serve the Lord this year as a student missionary at WSU.
Hi, my name is Cesar Sitio and I'm a Student Missionary serving at Washington State University.
Go Gougs!
I’m currently a senior in Pre-Med studying Biochemistry here at WSU. I’ve been blessed to be called to disciple and serve college students at the Saint Thomas More Catholic Student Center as Director of Men’s Ministry and Discipleship.
I was born and raised in a Catholic family and grew up attending a Catholic elementary school. Mass was a weekly practice; prayer was encouraged, and other church involvements were common. Still, while growing up, I never felt fully connected to my faith and understood what I was here for and why. I knew something was missing. It was the summer before my senior year of high school when the Lord spoke to me and began the journey of calling me back to him and making me his own. I began to ask questions and attempt to follow the Lord, as I was being encouraged by my community to continue this path, but it was the beginning of college where the Lord really began to move.
Early in college, I was heavily involved in the church community, but I struggled to understand what it meant to follow Him, and what that would look like. With the persistence of the Lord, he began to win me over by showing me his love, community, and brotherhood with the men around me. Encountering missionaries of Saint Paul’s Outreach and the Brothers of Hope, God began to show me a community he desired for his children. This began to realign my heart to the Lord, to desire more of Him and what he had for my life. As the Lord began to win me over with his love, He placed a fire within me that desired to continue this path of surrender to Him and to allow Him to work in my life.
By God's pursuit of my heart, He has filled me with a desire to live a life for the growth of His Kingdom, and to be a missionary for Him. I desire to live a life that offers brotherhood to the men and community around me so that God can begin to work in their lives as He has done and is doing in mine. I’ve been blessed with this fantastic opportunity and would love for you to join me on this call to mission. If you’d like to help me and support the work I’ll be doing, please consider donating. By becoming part of my campus missionary support, you are helping me make a difference in the students' lives at WSU. I am excited to serve the Lord this year as a student missionary at WSU.
